Vox-Antenna & Auspex Shrine Build

Normally when I buy any terrain it remains in the box for ages and as you would expect I have amassed quite a mountain of plastic. So it was surprising that the day after I received the new Vox-Antenna and Auspex Shrine in the post I had the urge to assemble it, and paint it. First I assembled the Vox-Antenna as that was the first structure in the instructions. I started by clipping out parts A1 and A2 from the sprue, cleaned them up with mold lines scrapped and I then glued these pieces together, applying pressure to the assembly for a few moments until the glue started to do its job. This was the base of the Antenna done, next came part A3, the base flooring which after cleaning was glued simply into its place. I then assembled the computer terminal with parts A14 and A15, this assembly was glued on the side of the tower, there are guides to ensure it is glued in the correct location. The ladder was then snipped from the sprue, mould lines scrapped off and then glued into position, again there were guide holes to ensure it's location is correct. Then the rails at the top of the ladder were glued into place. That was the base of the first tower completed. Next parts A4 and A5 were cut from the sprue and cleaned before gluing together, these formed the second smaller tower. The top of this was capped with part A7 which fitted without any problem at all. A small Mechanicus skull was then glued to the side. The final part of the secondary tower was a single piece, which was part A13. A12 added a little more detail to the top of the structure. The second smaller tower was glued to the base tower. Lastly the small double vent piece A8, was glued into position to finish the assembly. A tall structure once completed, standing 29cm high. The floor of the first part of the tower, which is accessed by the ladder forms a great platform to get an overall vantage point of the battlefield, with the computer terminal giving a little bit of cover. A great sniper position.

I then moved onto the Auspex Shrine, the base was formed from parts B3 and B4 which I carefully snipped away from the sprue, sliced away any unlevelled bits caused by removing from the sprue with a craft knife, before removing the mold lines with a mold line remover tool. Next came parts B6 and B5 which were a pair of the four supports for the base tower. These had small pegs in unique positions which made fixing them in the correct position really easy. This process was repeated with parts B7 and B8. Facia panels were next to be glued on, again this panels had location pins on them to ensure they went snuggly into the correct positions. This assembly was then glued on the actual base of the structure, again locating this into the correct position was made easy with the pipe being used as a locator. A small cap piece covered the plain end of the pipe. The radar "dish" piece was one large part, a backing piece was glued to the rear and the antenna part glued to the front. A separate assembly consiting of parts B13 and B14, which were glued together was then dry fitted in between parts B18 and B19 without using any glue to enable the radar "dish" to be moved stiffly up and down. This array was glued into position on the assemble's base, which was part B20. An auxiliary cable was glued to the radar fixing base that "fed' to the radar pivot system. This was only glued to the base, and left to fit flush to the pivot system to enable movement. There was a choice of either fixing the radar to the pivot assembly horizontally or vertically. I chose vertically and glued it into place. This whole assembly then fitted in the base without gluing to allow rotation of the radar "dish". I will paint both these part separately but may decide to permanently fix the radar in place to prevent damage to the paint work and also once varnished it may not be able to be moved freely.

My initial plan for using these two pieces of terrain were for when Necromunda goes above ground to the Ash Wastes they will be used as forgotten tech on the battlefield. I will still not weather them up too badly as they will probably still be used in games of Kill Team and Inquisitor 28. I am hoping to concentrate a little more of my painting time working on the massive backlog of terrain that I have collected over the last couple of years and these pieces will certainly be two of the first. So look out for them once they are finished and I post them here fully painted and ready for my battle fields.
